Tradition states that anyone can touch the Stanley Cup, but only a person who has won it can hold it over his head. As for people who actually plays hockey, they won't even touch the cup until they win it. Yes, there is some superstition involved here, but bottom line is: you've got to earn it.
On the other hand, there's this on the TdF web site:
Buying a maillot jaune and wearing it on a bike would be like a hockey player not just touching the Stanley Cup. It would be like touching it, picking it up, holding it over your head, then attaching a strap and wearing it around like a hat.
I guess they are selling this jersey so you can put it in a frame and hang it on your wall. Or maybe not...*
*At least Lindsay has the sense to not wear her maillot jaune while actually riding a bike!
